What is Body-Oriented (Somatic) Therapy?
Talk therapy gives your thoughts and words a place to be heard. Body-oriented therapy invites something more — space for what your body has been carrying, too. Emotions don’t only live in your mind; they show up as tension in your shoulders, a held breath, a knot in your stomach, a posture that’s learned to brace. Together, we can explore what’s already there and let it guide us toward healing that words alone sometimes can’t reach.
In our sessions, this might look like:
- • Noticing what happens in your body as we talk — a tightening in your chest, a held breath, a shift in posture
- • Grounding exercises that help you feel more anchored and present in your body
- • Breathwork to support relaxation and settle an activated nervous system
- • Gently tracking sensation to help release stored tension, rather than staying stuck in it
- • Building your capacity to feel and understand emotions in your body, not just describe them in words
You’re always in control of how far into this we go. Nothing is forced, and conversation remains a core part of our work together — this isn’t a replacement for talk therapy, it’s an addition to it.
This approach is shaped by my training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, as well as yoga, movement-based practices, and energy-awareness work.
Experience supporting clients in a “mommy and me” halfway house program, helping mothers in recovery alongside their children, confirmed the benefit of somatic work firsthand — that’s where I began applying these techniques and saw how strongly clients responded.

Who I work with
Anxiety, Stress & Nervous System Exhaustion
When your body feels stuck in “on” mode — anxious, wired, or exhausted in a way rest doesn’t fix — we work on helping your nervous system find safety again.
Trauma & Overwhelming Life Experiences
Whether it’s a specific traumatic event or something that doesn’t feel like “trauma” but still lives in your body, somatic work can reach what talking alone hasn’t.
Identity & Life Transitions
Whether it’s a relationship change, a career shift, or simply a season of life that doesn’t feel like you anymore — we work on reconnecting with who you are underneath the role.
Postpartum & Motherhood
The shift into motherhood can bring exhaustion, identity loss, and a disconnection from your body that’s rarely talked about openly — including support for difficult or traumatic birth experiences.
Body Image & Reconnecting With Your Body
For many women, the body becomes a source of criticism or disconnection rather than safety. This work helps rebuild a felt sense of trust in your own body.
Boundaries & Emotional Ownership
Learning to notice, hold, and communicate boundaries — and to actually feel and own your emotions, rather than managing or avoiding them.
